We are pleased to announce Tao Comedy Studio’s first ever student scholarship in honor of our friend and student, the remarkable Wilson Weaver. We lost Wilson in 2016, at the age of 32. In his relatively short life, Wilson made a huge impact on everyone who was lucky enough to be in his life. He was an animal rights activist and hilarious stand-up comic. But, most of all, he was our friend. Wilson was one of the most compassionate loving generous people I have ever met.
Born in Fort Worth, Texas, Wilson studied graphic design at the University of Mississippi, Cinematography at New York Film Academy in Los Angeles, and was pursuing an MFA in Photography at Savannah College of Art and Design. He was a Motion Picture Dolly Grip with IATSE Local 80, having worked on “The Mindy Project,” “Big Love,” “True Blood,” “Interstellar,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” and more. Wilson was engaged to the love of his life, dancer Brianna Lopez, who became part of our family, as well. His passing sent ripples of sorrow throughout our comedy family, and his spirit can never be replaced. It is my honor to give someone an opportunity to take comedy classes at Tao on scholarship in his name. He would probably have preferred I give this scholarship to an animal, but I haven’t figured out how to teach raccoons to be funny yet. This is for you, buddy. Spreading love in your name.
To apply for the Wilson Weaver Comedy Scholarship for an 8-week StandUp Workshop at Tao Comedy Studio, send me an email telling me why you should be given the scholarship along with a pic of you (for best results, also send me your socials so I can get to know you). I (Bobbie Oliver) will choose from the admissions. Feel free to also email us with questions.
