The Tao of Comedy approach is unlike any other stand-up comedy class in Los Angeles or anywhere out there. Based on Bobbie Oliver’s book The Tao of Comedy: Embrace the Pause, our method is grounded in Zen Buddhist and Taoist philosophies, and helps each person tap into their creativity and their authentic voice as a comedian, to have a unique take on subjects and become a more prolific joke-writer.
Our approach is organic and extremely positive. The feed-back is detailed and constructive, and while specific to each individual comic, is placed in real-time and comedic historical context so that everyone in class benefits. Our stand-up comedy classes in Los Angeles are fun and supportive. We provide a safe space to create, experiment and find your own comedy voice.
We steer away from hack premises, overdone formulas and caricatures. All of our Los Angeles stand-up comedy classes are taught personally by 30+ year comedy veteran and still-working comic, Bobbie Oliver. We also provide you with lots of performance opportunities inside and outside of class with our weekly open mics, comedy shows, festivals and showcases in Los Angeles.
